Mobile Internet usage exploding thanks to obsession with Facebook and Twitter
A recent report by CCS Insight suggests Social Networks are what is driving the use of mobile internet by young adults. And Facebook is king of the hill.
Based on a survey of more than 1000 adults between the ages of 16 and 35, the key themes to emerge are:
* Mobile Internet use is growing at a phenomenal rate; social networking is driving growth with a third of young adults regularly accessing Facebook and Twitter from their mobiles
* Men are twice as likely as women to access the Internet through their mobile phone
* Social networking is driving growth, with a third of young adults regularly accessing Facebook from their mobiles
*Young adults expect mobile content – especially music and videos – to be free
* BBC iPlayer is the service people would most like to see on their phones
The report shows Apple’s iPhone to be the most used mobile device for accessing online content and also shows teenagers favoured Facebook over Twitter.
“Teenagers do not use Twitter. They realise that no-one is viewing their profile, so their tweets are pointless,” Matthew Robson wrote in the report.
