Google Adds Facebook Friends to Results

We’ve just noticed a rather interesting and potentially alarming new feature of Google searches. When a Facebook user’s profile is returned in Google’s search results, you can now see the user’s location (or network) and a random selection of their friends, as shown on their public profile.

There doesn’t appear to be any special markup in the Facebook profile page, but this could be a result of Google’s ‘Rich Snippets’ feature in action, as announced at this year’s Searchology conference?”

You may have some privacy issues if your name comes up as a friend when previously you chose to stay under the radar. The Google results should only show public profiles, which brings us to the subject of Facebook Privacy.
If you have a Facebook page be sure to visit the privacy settings and set them properly. If you don’t want to be visible to the outside world then only your friends should be allowed to see any of your Facebook profile and postings.
