Farewell the humble Compact Cassette, how I wish I could still hear you wow.
I remember being wowed by the stunning stereo from a music cassette demonstrated to me by an early adopter with a Sony Walkman. That was a long time ago and we’ve lived through years of steady sales and not too much innovation in cassette players and recorders. Not to mention the miles of brown tape that adorn the roadsides from car players that have mangled the cassettes innards and been tossed out of car windows in frustration.
Along came the compact disc and the writing was on the wall. MP3′s and the iPod hammered home the final nail in the Compact Cassette coffin.
There are no cassette players left in our house, the sole remaining player resides in the dashboard of my wife’s car. Along with the VHS recorders they have all been consigned to the land fill of history.
So what to do with the audio book of Dorothy L Sayers The Nine Tailors that we have just been loaned and really want to listen to?
