If you are one of Ashton Kutcher’s 2.5 million followers on Twitter, then you may have noticed his apparent elevation to official White House Twit.

On Sunday Kutcher said; “I’ve been asked by the white house to twet this” (sic)

He then linked to a White House blog post urging people to get tested for HIV,

And followed that up by saying “If our President and First Lady can get tested — you can too.”

Politico confirm it’s not one of Kutcher’s pranks. The White House did indeed enlist his help to promote the message.

“As technology impacts how and where people are communicating online, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with the public,” said White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin. “Our efforts to promote National HIV Testing Day included participation from popular users of Twitter, as well as broad social media engagement by agencies across the government.”
